Because A Girl Needs Her Coffee July 13, 2009

I have been going down to Ellwood’s Coffee probably once a week now.  I get the usual Americano and some type of vegan muffin that looks tasty.  I will post about the muffins later this week, and include crappy pictures from my phone :)

I decided that spending the $3 in tolls to get there and back and then an additional $5 for my awesome Americano and muffin, that I should embark on a new coffee adventure.  About a year ago, a friend introduced me to the Aeropress.  This thing is AWESOME.  It makes a better shot then Starbucks, and an even better Americano.  Every time I would go to my friends place I would use his Aeropress.  Well I haven’t seen him in awhile and I was desperate for some good coffee.  So I ordered myself an Aeropress from ThinkGeek.com and a 2 lb bag of Café Cubano from Mayorga Coffee.  The Aeropress comes tomorrow via UPS and the coffee came today.  I am so excited

I could smell the coffee when it was in the box when my UPS man, Stephan, delivered it.  SOOOO GOOD!!!!!!  I can’t wait until tomorrow when my beloved Aeropress shows up :)

100_1010A year ago today, with the advice and support of  DrFaulken I started my journey in the blogging world.  I might not have wrote as much as I wanted, and believe me I currently have a back log that I need to catch up on.  But I have enjoyed this last year sharing all of my baking/cooking experiences with everyone.  It has been a great adventure joining Tuesdays With Dorie, The Daring Bakers’, The Daring Cooks’, and VeganMofo.  I am looking forward to this next year and hope to take more risks with food and maybe have a few more adventures.

Thank you to everyone that reads my blog and leaves comments.  I appreciate every one of them.  I remember the first time someone left a comment.  It made me feel so special, and it still does.  Please keep reading and I will keep writing.  Hopefully, I can make it more entertaining in the next year.

Today June 28, 2009

I have taken to wandering around town when I don’t want to sit still.

Sitting around my apartment gets depressing after awhile, even though the dogs do keep me pretty entertained with their random bursts of energy which usually results in chasing each other around the apartment :)

Today, I decided to venture out and go to my favorite coffee house.

NO, it isn’t Starbucks.  If you know me, you know I don’t give them my money…but I will take free drinks when offered :) We have a history, a bitter one.

I drove 20 minutes into the city.  I guess I should tell you where I went.  I have been writing for almost a year, and haven’t divulged my location.  I guess it is time :)

I live in the Richmond, VA, area.  I drove into Carytown, and went to my favorite place, Ellwood’s Coffee.  I love that place.  The location is great.  The place is beautiful, and the coffee is awesome.

0628091010I got my usual drink, an Americano (shots of espresso and hot water), ordered a raspberry muffin, and went to sit outside.  Today is actually a beautiful day.  There was a nice breeze and it was a little overcast for awhile.  I sat in a corner and was positioned just right so that my non-driving arm could actually get some sun, and IT DID.  I am a little red now :)

I sat there for 2 hours.  I did some writing and then started to read a new book.

It was nice to get out and do some people watching for awhile, and just enjoy the day.  I actually don’t get to do that too much.  I am thinking about planting some herbs today.  The usual: basil, parsley, chives, and sage.  I know I am planting them late, but at least I will be able to sit outside on my tiny porch and garden in my little planters :)
